“We are often troubled, but not crushed….and though badly hurt at times, we are not destroyed.”   2 Corinthians 4: 8-9

A letter of St. Francis de Sales describes a custom of farmers in his day.  When they carried water in a bucket, they floated a piece of wood on the water to keep it from splashing up and out.  That piece of wood is a lot like Jesus; and the splashing water, a lot like life.

Whenever the waters of life splash about, threatening to destroy us, we need only turn to Jesus.  He will calm them as he calmed the sea.  He will give us serenity in the face of trouble and trials—just as he did for St. Paul.

With what kind of trust do I turn to Jesus in my times of trial?
