The highlight of our day was to be a special tour of the Chateau Lafite Rothchild and its winery. On the drive there, with an hour to spare, we stopped at a no-name winery whose eccentric and delightful owner gave us a tour. Afterwards he joined us for a tasting. We enjoyed his company so much the tasting lasted for a bottle and a half of his best wine. We completely missed the planned highlight of the day but we had the highlight of our entire trip!

I suspect that is how John’s disciples looked back on their day described in the gospel. They expected another great day with John, but got the day of their lives with Jesus!

I wonder how many times I may have missed a day with Jesus because I was so focused on what “I” had to get done and was in no mood to see and hear what the Lord was calling me to. So I pray to have the eyes to see and the ears to hear the Lord calling me, even in the most unexpected and strange ways.
