These past days of July 4th celebration we have thrilled to the color and light and sound of fireworks.  For many there has been time for family, for hamburgers on the grill, for simple sharing and good rest.  These holidays remind us that the Lord continues to give us life and freedom in the spirit. Our God continues to send us forth two by two, family by family, to make a difference in this world, to let our light shine, to ensure that the gospel takes flesh and makes sense.

As this holiday week comes to an end, it is good to look up and outward, taking stock of where we have come from and where we are going.  As St. Paul reminds us today:  “All that matters is that one is created anew.”

What have I done for the Lord this past month?  How does my faith in Jesus impact my daily routine?  What can I do during July to let the values and attitudes of Jesus shine forth in my relationships …especially with those closest to me?
