Paul’s letter to the Romans explains the fulfilment of God’s promise to Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars. He reminds us that it was not due to Abraham’s actions that God made this promise, but rather because of his faith. Even though biology told him that he would not have children, he chose to believe that with God all things are possible. “He believed, hoping against hope,” and God fulfilled his promise.
In our own lives, God does not promise that things will be easy, or that we will always be happy. Rather, God promises to remain with us always, never abandoning us to despair. How might today look different if we are confident in God’s fidelity?
