What a week it has been so far! First the Patriots win their fourth Super Bowl and then Harper Lee announces she has a 2nd book coming out. But this week is far from over because this Saturday is Ice Cream for Breakfast Day. I know, it snuck up on me this year too. Wait, you’ve never heard of this magical feast? Don’t worry, you’re not alone, neither had I until last week.
Apparently this celebration goes back to the ‘60s when a mother of six wanted to do something fun for her kids during a blizzard and wouldn’t you know it, Ice Cream for Breakfast seemed liked the best idea. I love it! Here are four reasons why I’ll be trying it out this year.
1)Tradition! With all the bad weather we’ve been having here in Chicago and around the country, this creative mom was on to something. We’d be harkening back to how she originally intended this day to be spent.
2) Ice Cream is delicious! Any product that can have a catch phrase “ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream” means there has to be something good about it. There is a flavor for everyone. I especially love the local shops that create really unique flavors.
3) It’s fun! How psyched would you be if your parents had done this for you when you were little? I know, I can sometimes take myself a little too seriously, this is an opportunity to relax and do something fun just because. Imagine surprising your kids, your roommate, your partner, your parents, or just yourself this Saturday morning and wiping out some ice cream.
4) It’s a Fundraiser! Give Kids the World, Let’s help Kids, and Malia’s family are all organizations supporting children suffering from a serious illness and their families. They also have fundraisers around eating ice cream for breakfast, although the dates may vary.
