Pre-Prans with Ruthie – White Sangria
How does Ruthie keep cool on a steamy summer day? Why, with a pitcher of her famous White Sangria, of course!
Jason Welle, SJ, of The Jesuit Post joins Ruthie in whipping up a pitcher of icy cool Sangria and they talk all things Peace Corps and MGTs….
Choose a variety of citrus and fruits (except bananas), such as:
1 bottle of Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc (or any white wine)
1/4 cup of Triplesec or Grand Marnier
1/2 cup of brandy or Cognac
A couple bunches of fresh mint
Thinly slice the fruit (with peels on) and place in a large glass pitcher.
Add all the liquids to the fruit. Tear off of a couple of handfuls of fresh mint, add it to the pitcher, and give it a stir.
Cover and refrigerate for a couple of hours (or days if you can wait that long!).
To serve, pour strained White Sangria over glasses filled with ice, and enjoy!
ABOUT THE SHOW
“Pre-Prans with Ruthie” is an Ignatian food show on the IN Network that brings the time-honored Jesuit tradition of “preprandials” (think: happy hour) to your home through easy to make & share recipes that are infused with Ruthie’s stories and lovable personality.
WHO IS RUTHIE?
Ruthie is a mother of two grown kids and fifth of twelve siblings. A retired yoga instructor, she now lives and works in Los Angeles, CA, serving as Kitchen Manager at the Jesuit Novitiate, in addition to owning and managing Organized Living with Ruthie. As a niece and sister of two Jesuits, her ties to the Society of Jesus and Ignatian Spirituality are life-long.
WHAT IS PRE-PRANS?
Pre-Prans is basically happy hour. Short for preprandial, it’s anything done right before a meal, like having appetizers and drinks. In the Society of Jesus, “pre-prans” is a traditional way that Jesuits who live together make time in their busy schedules to gather as a community.
