Numerous scriptural references illumine the sublime mystery of the Holy Trinity. One of the most compelling can be found in the final sentence of St. Paul’s Second Letter to the Corinthians (chapter 13, verse 13): “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

Scripture scholars point out that this greeting—suggesting joy and kindness, as well as patience and understanding—mirrors the mission of Jesus. St. Ignatius was never the same once he understood the implications and applications of this trinitarian prayer—to be “Jesuit” is “to be sent”!
