In today’s Gospel, Peter points to John, asking “Lord, what about him?” Two thousand years later, we often find ourselves asking a version of that same question when we feel we are being treated unfairly, or that someone else is getting a better deal than we are.  Jesus’s response to Peter, “What concern is it of yours?  You follow me,” can apply to each of us.  Our focus should not be on making sure we are getting a fair shake.  Rather, our focus remains on following Jesus.

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Ugandan Martyrs, the 22 Catholics who were martyred in the 1880s for refusing the king’s command to renounce their faith..  Instead of asking God why he had to suffer, a teenager named Kizito spoke his final words, “Goodbye, friends.  We are on our way.”

How is God asking you to follow?
