On this Trinity Sunday, Hunter D’Armond, SJ, reflects on how we show our faith through our bodies, including the Sign of the Cross. Based on the readings for Sunday, May 30, 2021.

What we do with our body, matters.

Hi, I’m Hunter D’Armond and this is my one-minute reflection.

So much of what we communicate is non-verbal. We have simple hand gestures like the peace sign and a thumbs up, and we also have larger movements like a baseball umpire ringing somebody up when they strike out.

As Catholics, we are given the physical prayer of the sign of the cross. We mark ourselves in the shape of the cross accompanied by the same words heard in today’s gospel when Jesus commissioned his disciples to baptize “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”

When we physically sign ourselves with the cross, we are praying not only with our spirit and words but also with our physical bodies.

So on this feast of the Most Holy Trinity, let us confess our faith in this God with not only our words, but with every little action of our day.
