A desperate father seeks the Lord’s healing for his son. I treasure this story of mercy and hope. Jesus’ response—“Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will not believe.”— is a teaching moment. But the man persists, pleading. Jesus in his compassion shows us his love in action not words. He pauses the lecture, saves the boy, and so too gives the gift of salvation to his whole household. A beautiful miracle.
Jesus gives me permission here to sometimes plead in prayer, and also teaches me that love and compassion are the most important gifts I can give. He is showing me how to give generously. And still he provides signs and wonders. Some days I see them, some days I don’t. But I know they are all around us.
