Jesus calls all people to follow him. Carlos Martinez-Vela, S.J., reflects on the call of the apostles, which is the call that all people of faith receive from Christ.
Is Jesus calling you?
Hi. I am Carlos Martinez-Vela, and this is my one-minute reflection.
Do you ever feel that because of what you do or who you are, you are not worthy of being part of something? In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells a group of fishermen, “Come after me.” One by one, each one leaves behind their nets to follow Him.
Jesus calls all people, not just the pure and the pious, to something new. He calls people like you and me. Humans who struggle, who cry, and who hope. He calls everyone to a new life.
Remember that, in the beginning, God found everything He created very good. And as God who walks among us, Jesus finds YOU very good. He is always waiting with open arms, an open mind, and an open heart.
So don’t let anyone tell you that you are not worthy of the Good News. Jesus casts a wide net; a net that has room for everybody, including you.
