Jesus was tempted out in the desert. Carlos Martinez-Vela, SJ, reflects that we must also face those dark corners of our hearts in order to invite Christ’s light in. God will show up. Based on the readings for the First Sunday of Lent.
Are you wrestling with inner demons?
Hi. I am Carlos Martinez-Vela, and this is my one-minute reflection.
Do you ever feel down, angry, or frustrated without knowing why? In today’s Gospel, Jesus goes out into the desert, and he remains there for forty days. There, alone and quiet, the evil spirit tempts him, and he confronts his inner demons. Angels minister to Him. God shows up.
We all have inner demons, but sometimes, we are not aware of them. They are like annoying travel companions hiding in the dark corners of our hearts. As you enter this Lenten season, maybe God is inviting you to confront these inner demons and find His light in the darkness. He will show up.
Think about it, and do not be afraid. Join Jesus in the desert and trust that God will show up. The kingdom of God is at hand.
