I always counted down the days to summer vacation. Dad would rent a cottage near a lake; our family would pack books and games and sports stuff. We loaded up the car and headed for a week of freedom and sunshine, family and fun. Crammed into a smaller space we somehow found ways to share our lives in new ways, to forge stronger bonds of faith and family. Of course, there were disagreements and sometimes high drama. But overall we enjoyed and cared and loved each other in ways that last today.

Today’s readings invite us to realize anew the talents and blessings God gives us, to be our best selves within the various “worlds” we inhabit, to listen again to the Lord’s invitation: “Whom shall I send?”  With renewed hearts may each of us find practical ways to say: “Send me!”
