What is wisdom? Josef Rodriguez, SJ, reflects on how Christ calls us to freedom, and that is the heart of wisdom. Based on the readings for the Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time.
What even is wisdom?
Hi, I’m Josef Rodriguez, and this is my One-Minute Reflection:
In the book of Wisdom we read about a desire for wisdom over riches, health and good looks—things that many of us pursue today.
In the Gospel reading, Jesus tells the rich young man to give all he has to the poor and to follow him. The wisdom here is this: To be free from what we have to be free for service in Christ’s name.
The problem is that our possessions too often possess us instead of the other way around. They can hinder us in our relationships with God and others.
The author of the book of Wisdom believes that wisdom enriches a person’s life more than anything else. Probably because wisdom leads us to the ultimate treasure—a lasting relationship with Jesus Christ.
